Joel Grimes has dedicated his life to creating portraits that grab the viewers attention. “For me the way light strikes a face is paramount”. In this session, he'll cover everything from HDR backgrounds, lighting techniques, lens choice and much more. Joel holds nothing back in revealing his secrets to building the dramatic portrait.

Speedlighting

This presentation will illustrate how to use off camera flash in a variety of situations, but will also be technical with respect to current Speedlight technology, camera settings and accessory equipment. Attendees will gain a thorough understanding of off camera flash principles and applications ranging from portraiture, to lighting on location, to sports action with High Speed Sync all being accomplished using Speedlights off camera. This will be a step-by-step instructional style presentation.

This live shoot will demonstrate food photography like you've never seen it before, covering everything from a barbecue grill to a "do it yourself" project to the the ever-popular flying salad! Joe has been working with food for over 35 years and he, along with a food stylist, will give you an insight into this incredible field of photography.

Anatomy of a Photo Shoot

This live still life shooting session covers the studio photography workflow from proper exposure through file archiving, Topics covered will include setting up practical color management that works, wireless tethered shooting, Raw capture processing, and final archiving and delivery.

Lightpainting

This presentation will cater to the artistic lighting technique of Lightpainting, which combines long exposure times with illumination from mobile light sources to create a unique photograph. This highly creative lighting style of image making is applicable in every genre of photography and is a useful skill for any photographer to have. Attendees will see multiple examples ranging from small tabletop imagery, to life size figure, to large-scale landscapes. This stylized lighting technique will be illustrated with a collection of my portfolio images and step-by-step procedures with commentary on how Lightpainting is executed.
