Must Have iPhone Apps for PSW

Posted March 15, 2010 by Web Editor | Comments (1)

I’ve had an iPod Touch for years but only recently (as in a week ago) got an iPhone. I know, I know… its about time, right? Just like most everyone else who gets an iPhone, I racked up those iTunes App Store charges pretty quickly! But the good news is that I searched out a lot of apps that are must have’s if you’re going to attend Photoshop World and own an iPhone. So, fire up the iTunes App Store and get downloading!

Photoshop World (Free): Lets start out with the application that is named after the conference. Seems like a no-brainer, right? This application lets you view the class list, class details, and add classes to your schedule so that you know where to go and when. It also has a list of all the exhibitors on the expo floor, view news about Photoshop World, and the latest version lets you export your schedule and share it with friends via email. Pretty sweet, huh?

Photoshop Mobile (Free): Ok, if you don’t know why I am listing this one then you really need to get a helmet on and get in the game. You’re going to Photoshop World. Why would you no use Photoshop Mobile to edit photos you take with your iPhone before sharing them with your friends???

Bump (Free): Bump is a really cool application that allows you to share your contact information with another person very quickly and easily… How quick and easy you ask? Well, you fire up the application on both devices, then bump your hands together and the contact information is magically transferred through the ether. Or more accurately over the internet. You can even select what information to share. So if you don’t want to share your phone number you can un-select it and it won’t be transferred.

Twitterrific (Free): Even if you don’t use Twitter it is important to know that many of the instructors and fellow conference attendees do. Using Twitterrific you can keep up with the latest happenings and information straight from those in the know. But if you’re resisting getting a Twitter app, you can check out the list that Nancy put together of all the NAPP / PSW instructors using a web browser here: http://twitter.com/NAPP_news/napp-psw-staff-instructor

Google Mobile (Free): If you’re not from Orlando then you may have the need to find things if you want to go out. The Google application uses your voice to search for whatever you want and returns the results based on your location. So if you want a pizza, just fire up the application, say pizza, and Google will serve you up all the pizza places nearby.

AccuWeather (Free): Going on a pre-conference workshop that is outdoors and not sure weather to take a rain coat or sunscreen? Well, this is Florida so take both no matter what the weather guessers say. But having a good idea as to what its going to be like outside is always a good idea. This application will give you weather forecasts up to 15 days in advance and also alert you is severe weather is moving into your area… and this is Florida so that happens on a daily basis!

Daylight (Free): This is a very simple application that tells you when the golden hour for lighting is. It shows twilight, sunrise, evening twilight, and sunset. You never know if you’re going to become inspired at the conference and want to head out with your camera before or after classes to practice what you’re learning.

WordPress (Free): Got a WordPress blog and want to update it from the conference? This application makes it a whole lot easier to monitor comments and add posts to your blog on the fly. Its just too bad that it doesn’t work for writing guest blogs on here!

Flickr (Free): Share the photos you take at the conference (you know, the ones you edit using Photoshop Mobile) with the world via Flickr.

and finally….

Doodle Jump ($0.99): Not that you’ll have much down time but when you do, Doodle Jump will be there to provide hours of mindless entertainment.
